HISTORY: This is the oldest tournament on the Mendocino Coast. The local Parks Department started this tournament in 1986. The new tournament director Tess was one of the early players, travelling from Sacramento with the Turn Verein over-30 team, eventually moving to the coast in 1990. She has continued to participate as a player, and is also a highly experienced tournament director of youth and adult tournaments, adding this tournament just recently. Over 35,000 players have participated in her tournaments since 1980. The weather is always perfect for soccer–never too hot. The beaches are both scenic and fun, and the coast boasts the freshest summer air and a variety of recreation and unique shopping opportunities. There are no box stores in this area.
ENTRY: Tournament applications can be found on this website; see link on this page above. Teams are accepted annually on a first-come, first-served basis, until divisions are full. All communication from tournament director will be via email or website. Applications will be acknowledged asap and acceptances/rejections are emailed usually within a week of receipt.
Game schedules will be emailed and posted on this website 2 weeks before the tournament. Changes to the schedule are possible, so teams are responsible to check back periodically. Teams affected by major changes, such as to first Sat game times or flight switches will receive a special email alert.
FEES: The entry fee of $525 is payable to the MCRPD for 11v11 divisions (Open, Over 30,35). $495 for 8v8 division (U40,45,50). Emailed applications are accepted as a place-holder, but paying teams will receive priority if flights become filled. All rejected teams will receive a full refund. Any team withdrawing after July 1 will forfeit the entry fee if there is no team on the waiting list willing to take their place.
FORMAT: All teams will play a minimum of four games– usually three on Saturday, and one on Sunday before the championship round. There will be championship games on Sunday for the top four teams, two from each flight.
AWARDS: Teams finishing in first place will receive tournament championship T-shirts. In addition, teams finishing in 1st, 2nd , 3rd , and 4th place in their divisions will receive individual prizes for players and coaches.
