A Soroptimist Fundraising Event: Improving the Lives of Women and Girls Locally and Globally
Abalone Cup Women’s Soccer Classic is a long-established women’s tournament, limited to 36 teams. This all-women’s event in for HS and OpenComp, OpenRec, Over30, and Over40/50 divisions. The tournament utilizes high quality referees and excellent fields to play on.The Mendocino Coast is located in Fort Bragg, Ca., 3.5 hours travel from San Francisco, Oakland, and Sacramento. It’s a great vacation get-away, as Fort Bragg is situated on the beautiful Mendocino Coast, walking distance to Glass Beach and many other popular beaches and vistas with beautiful whitewater views. Check the home page (link on the left) for live cam views of the ocean. The weather in August is always ideal for soccer, averaging high 60’s-low 70’s, never too hot.
The coast is blessed with many excellent all-weather soccer fields in close proximity to each other and near all the hotels, rental homes, and wonderful bed and breakfast inns. This is a tourist destination and all the motels and hotels are great—some have their own beach access–and most are very reasonably priced. The tournament coordinator will gladly recommend lodging if asked.

General Information: This tournament is women’s High School, Open Competitive and Recreational, Over 30 and Over 40/50 divisions, limited to 32 teams
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until all the divisions are filled. Teams will be emailed immediately upon application receipt . All teams (up to 32) will be accommodated with their first choices if at all possible, but a second choice means teams have a higher probability of fitting into the tournament. Any rejections will be made both by email and USPS mail as soon as on or before June 30. Rejected teams will receive a full refund and be put on a waiting list. Tournament schedules, rules, and roster sheets will be emailed and sent by mail, on or before August 15. The schedule will also be posted on this website.
If accepted teams cancel by letter postmarked on or before July 15, they will receive a full refund. Teams canceling after that date will forfeit their registration fee, unless another team takes their place from the waiting list.
Lodging: The Mendocino Coast is a tourist destination, and lodging without reservations can be challenging in the summer. Please find on this website all the hotels, motels and inns, houses for rent that you can find in our local phone book.
